REGISTERING A DEATH

Deaths are normally registered within five days at the Register Office, unless there is a Coroner's investigation, which may take longer.  You must register a death in the district where it occurred.

HOW TO REGISTER A DEATH THAT OCCURED IN THE SOUTHEND DISTRICT

You can register a death either at the Civic Centre in Victoria Avenue, or Southend University Hospital in Prittlewell Chase.

In either case, you should make an appointment. Appointments are available all day at the hospital and are available in the afternoons at the Civic Centre.

To book an appointment to register a death at one of the registration offices you can book online or call 01702 215009

They can also offer you a "Tell Us Once" service which can help you notify local and national government departments, the DVLA and the Passport Office when someone dies. This service is FREE!

This service is to help you contact all of the different organisations and council departments you need to notify when a loved one has passed away.

All this information has been sourced and readily available on the Southend Borough Council website.
